Of-course this this is all very well but if you already have one of the various types of arthritis you need more than than general health advice. Having arthritis – your system is struggling and you need more than an ounce of education.

Do not believe anyone who says you can’t absorb toxins via the bowels. Once upon a time urine was routinely tested for a substance called indican, unfortunately not anymore. I have no idea why? Anyway it was an indicator of toxins being absorbed from some part of the body, mostly the bowels.

The slower the transition of waste matter thought the bowels the more toxins will be absorbed into the blood stream and eventually the more indican, if it was being tested for would be detected in the urine. This increases the amount of inflammation and increase aches and pains as an arthritis suffer.

A bowel needs several things to maintains health -

water

good nerve function

good muscle tone

excellent circulation

nutrients in sufficient amounts

However, once your bowels have become toxic laden, all the cells and tissues in the body are affected as in cases of arthritis – a concerted effort is needed to seriously cleanse the body to enable it to heal and regenerate.

There are two main important factors – bowel movements and the type of bacteria – both having a profound affect on every organ in the body.

Conditions of the bowel -

Inflammation and irritation of the bowel- when the mucus membrane malfunctions, the tissue of the bowel lining becomes exposed and hence irritated.

Bowels can become swollen (balloon) due to back up of waste matter, having a damaging affect on the bowel function and structure.

Colitis the bowel becomes irritable – besides diet, can often be affected by negative emotions that imbalance the delicate workings of the body. Diverticulitis is on the increase, weaknesses in the muscles of the lining of the bowel walls occur, the result is a hernia.  A small sac-like protrusion. Waste matter can accumulates in the sac and festers. There can be any number of these sacs where this accumulation causes increased toxic matter.

The mucosal lining can malfunction – abscesses, ulcerations, and bleeding occurs.

Bowels can go into spasm when its under constant stress, and malnourished. The symptoms can be alternating constipation and diarrhea.

Stricture of the bowel can sometimes occur after an inflammatory disease that damages the tissue. There is a narrowing of the bowel like a bottle next causing a back-up.

Ulceration can be caused by a number of things – irritation, abrasive matter, acidity, infection, toxins etc. This causes open sores, bleeding and pain.

Dr Bernard Jenson reported some years ago now while at the National College of Chicago – 300 autopsies of which 285 prior to their deaths stated they were not constipated and the other 15 thought they were constipated.Yet the autopsies revealed a completely different story when their bowels were examined. Since those days the average diet is even worse.

With a condition like arthritis you should consider a serious cleanse of the bowels and take some nutrients that will help to regenerate the cells. Why are bowel conditions of one form or another common? The primary reason is our modern diet, then stress, toxins and our emotions.

Most things people consume -

Dry – bread, cakes, pancakes, chips, meat etc you get the picture

Lacks fiber – pasta, pancakes, bread, meat, eggs, cheese, etc

Drinks are dehydrating – statistics show most people do not drink enough water

Sugar is acid forming

Chemicals in our processed foods

Colonic Irrigation, or Colon Hydrotherapy, has its roots in ancient Egypt, Greece and India and has been used in the Western world since the 1800s. Practitioners believe that toxins built up in the bowel may be responsible for many health problems and the goal is, therefore, to flush them from the colon.

Treatments are usually given in a clinic or spa and sessions last between 30 to 50 minutes. Practitioners should be qualified and a member of a recognised professional association, such as ACHA. The patient is required to change into a hospital style gown and may be asked to take an enema, before the procedure begins. During the treatment, they lay on a table and a special device is used to fill their colon with warm purified water. Herbs or enzymes may also be added to the water. The water causes the muscles lining the colon to contract and expand forcing out fecal matter, which may include bacteria and undigested food, through an evacuation tube into the machine. The therapist may massage the abdomen to help loosen pockets of waste and gas. The procedure may be repeated several times and should be pain free.

Prior to the treatment and after it has been completed, it is suggested that the patient eat light meals for a period of time. Some practitioners recommend 1-2 sessions whilst others will suggest treatments every few months.

Colonic Irrigation may be of assistance for general body detoxification and secondary conditions arising from poor bowel function, such as skin problems, bloating and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It is not suitable for people suffering from many inflammatory diseases such as Crohns disease, Diverticulitis, Ulcerative Colitis or Haemorrhoids. If in doubt, medical advice should be sought before commencing a treatment.

If you are considering going on a detox because you are suffering from arthritis – then having a couple of treatments would help to get the system kick started – helping to remove the toxins the body begins to release.

Check the colleges and associations to find a qualified and recommended practitioner.
